Thinkin’ about joining our team of champagne-sipping fairy godmothers? We’re looking for sharp and stylish professionals interested in coordination, design, and event production. Please inquire by submitting a cover letter and resume to associate@amberevents.com.
Now meet one of our interns, Dieu Pham, as she recalls her last wedding assist at Mariette and Justin’s wedding at Vibiana. If you’d like some insight as to what kind of hoops we make our interns jump through (slightly kidding), read on!
How did you learn about interning for Amber Events?
I first heard about Amber Events through a classmate, Tiffany Chan. After connecting with Nira via e-mail, she invited me to assist her at a Christmas party in Malibu. I was excited and nervous at the same time because it was my first non-wedding event, and I did not know what to expect! The party was a success and I was happy to come on board officially as an intern afterwards. And I’ve been loving it!
Tell us about yourself and how it relates to the wedding industry.
I love love. I’m a hopeless romantic who truly believes that the perfect love story does exist. Yet, it didn’t occur to me that I wanted to pursue a career in the wedding industry until my last year of college. When I worked my first few weddings as an intern, I fell in love with everything–the flowers, the decorations and the rituals! At the end of each event, I always feel like my hard work is rewarded when I get to watch these two people fall in love with each other again. When I’m not gushing over weddings, I like to spend my time hanging out with friends, trying new food, excercising and drinking boba tea.
What tasks did you complete for this wedding?
I was assigned as the lead to set up the cocktail hour and reception area. I helped set up the escort card table, welcome table, table numbers, pictures and other personal decorations from the couple. Then, I escorted the guitarist and the photo booth vendor to their assigned spots. When it was time to let guests into reception, I helped the team usher guests in the right direction. Lastly, I helped monitor the crowd throughout the night just in case they had any questions or needed help.
What was your favorite part about this wedding?
I really enjoyed listening to their best man and maid of honor speeches. Not only were they funny and heartwarming, they also gave me a glimpse at their love story.
What shoes did you wear?
My go-to wedding shoes–flats!
The uniform for the Amber Events team is all black with a pop of color. What did you do to jazz up your look?
Floral and lace are my two favorite patterns. I usually layer a black lace top with a blazer and floral statement necklace. My pop of color also comes from my pastel pink clipboard, covered with a white lace backing.
What is your favorite wedding scene from a movie?
My favorite wedding movie of all time is 27 Dresses with Katherine Heigl. The entire movie is hilarious but my favorite scene is when she tries on all 27 bridesmaid dresses for the reporter. Then, at the end of the movie where Katherine’s character gets married, the 27 brides wore their own bridesmaid dresses and stood next to her.
Do you have any words for anyone wanting to join the wedding industry?
My only advice is to try everything at least once, because you’ll never know what suits you until you try it. Always be ready to take on any tasks given to you and do it with a smile!
Final comments:
I’ve been with Amber Events for almost a year now and I’ve learned so much about the wedding industry. Every wedding is a new experience and there’s always something to take away from it–new lessons, new memories and good food! I’m excited to continue growing with Amber Events and can’t wait to see what the future holds!
