Welcome back, readers!
For the first time, we’re featuring a DJ in our vendor spotlight. Meet Wedding DJ, Krieger, which means warrior in German! Click below to learn about his style and philosophy.
If you could just label me, just narrow down my essence to a few words… I guess if you had to come up with a word, it would probably be malleable. One of the things I like about weddings—it’s probably my favorite thing to DJ—is that they’re so different from one to the next. If I were a “hipster” DJ or a “house” DJ, as you said, then I would really be limiting myself. When I arrive in front of a diverse crowd of guests at your wedding, I wouldn’t really be able to service everyone there. Because you never know who’s going to be at the wedding, you kind of have to be able to improvise and mix it up. When I arrive at a wedding, I only have a little bit of an idea of what I’m going to play. Obviously, the bride and groom give me some songs they want to hear, but a lot of times, I’m surprised. Maybe I’ll go in thinking, we’re going to play a ton of hip-hop tonight and—we don’t play any hip-hop. I’m reading the crowd and going along with it… I’ve always been obsessed with music–all kinds of music, pop music especially, since I was a kid. I was always listening to the radio. The amount of music that’s in my head—of different genres and of different eras—is so vast. That’s what I draw from when I’m DJ-ing and when I’m reading a crowd. It’s not necessarily trying to impress them with some songs that I think are cool; they may not think they’re cool. No one’s hiring me at a wedding to expose them to new music. People are hiring me at a wedding because it’s their wedding. They want to have a fun, celebration of unity and togetherness. I’m trying to find the right songs that are going to bring everyone together and not alienate anyone. Make everyone feel represented a little bit.
