Happy Thursday!
Today we’re happy to introduce another one of our newer interns, Alyssa. Though she has been with us for only a short time, she’s quite a natural! Read on as she recalls her last wedding assist at Karen and Norman’s wedding at Saddlerock Ranch.
How did you learn about interning for Amber Events?
I heard about Amber Events through Jackie, one of the associate planners. We met during our summer abroad program in Italy and she told me how much she loved working for Amber Events. I then asked Jackie if her and Nira would come and speak to my club, the Association of Student Event Planners, during which Nira talked about how they were looking for interns for 2016. I jumped at the chance.
Tell us about yourself and how it relates to the wedding industry.
I have always had an interest in event planning from planning my birthday parties growing up, to later becoming the President of the Association of Student Event Planners in college at Cal Poly Pomona. I like event planning because it’s about putting all the pieces together to create the bigger picture. I especially love wedding planning because you’re trying to bring to life a bride’s vision for her dream wedding, an event that she has thought about since she was a little girl.
What tasks did you complete for this wedding?
I was tasked with purchasing table number holders, assisting with the ceremony setup, and striking the event. I also got the opportunity to be the site contact for the brunch the bride and groom had for their family the day after the wedding. It was great to be able to be with the bride and groom on the day of their wedding, and then help them put on an intimate brunch with all their kids and grandkids.
What surprised you?
What surprised me about this wedding was that the whole night felt like a scene from a movie, from the location, to the way all the guests ran onto the dance floor to sing and dance with the bride and groom for the last song of the night.
What was your favorite part about this wedding?
My favorite part of the wedding was when the bride did a rap about how her and the groom met. The groom and the guests were thrown by the rhymes she was spitting.
What shoes did you wear?
My T-strap flats–wouldn’t go anywhere without them!
The uniform for the Amber Events team is all black with a pop of color. What did you do to jazz up your look?
My gold, rose necklace–I love just a little sparkle.
What is your favorite wedding scene from a movie?
My favorite wedding movie is The Wedding Planner with Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey. My favourite scene from the movie is at the end of the movie when when Matthew McConaughey saves Jennifer Lopez from getting run over. “You saved my shoe, I mean my life!”
Do you have any words for anyone wanting to join the wedding industry?
Get as much experience as you can!
Final comments?
It’s been a great experience being an intern for Amber Events. I’ve learned so much and love how no two weddings are the same. I look forward to more to come!
Amber Events is still looking for interns to join our team for the upcoming year! If you are interested, please send a cover shot and resume to associate@amberevents.com. Cheers!
