Hey, readers! Our feature of East Six Invitations is here!
This award-winning company creates custom paper goods, such as programs and menus, but is best known for their stunning invitations. They actually created invitations for our clients, Randi and John, complete with an intricate, laser-cut invitation sleeve (below!). This summer, we got to chat with Stacey and Marina, the co-founders and creative directors of East Six, at their Los Angeles studio. Read on to learn more about them and what they do!
(Amber Events) Tell us your must-haves for an invitation set that clients may not think of.
(Stacey + Marina) A personal touch: Make it a point to personalize your invitation set where you can. This will make it memorable for guests and even more special for you. Some ideas are a custom illustration, crest or monogram, or even a custom postage stamp. An organized suite: It is important to thoughtfully present information when a lot of details must be conveyed. Consider using a folder or band to hold multiple cards together or combine it all into a fun foldout card that guests can travel with. This is also a place to get creative and really play up your unique venue or wedding location! Envelope addressing: Nothing completes an invitation suite better than a professionally addressed envelope. We strongly urge against handwriting them yourself or using a sticker or label. Whether it be hand or digital calligraphy, it definitely makes a lasting impression and sets the tone.
What’s currently trending in the invitation world?
We urge our clients not to get too trendy with their invites. We want them to be able to look back in ten years and not feel dated. That being said, if executed correctly, nothing will become passé. We do love laser cut mixed with foil stamped elements–this combination creates an interesting and rich textural balance and is always exciting for the recipient!
How heavy, on average, is a full invitation set? Do you offer services creating custom postage?
Each suite we create is unique, therefore it is hard to give an estimated weight. The most important thing is to weigh your full invite suite right before you mail it as varying factors, such as the size, thickness, and ability to bend will influence postage price. The perfect stamp is often the finishing touch so we offer complimentary custom postage design for all of our clients!
What’s your favorite part of the creation process?
The most exciting and important part of the creative process happens in our initial consultation with the couple. We learn all about them, who they are, and the wedding they have envisioned. We then take the client’s ideas and translate them into a well-executed invitation package that embodies their vision and celebration.
Do you use any eco-friendly products or processes?
Eco-friendly products and processes can be used depending on what look the client is hoping to achieve. Where possible, we use 100% cotton paper stocks and do our best to be green when the project allows.
What about your hand calligraphy team? Can you tell us about their background and experience?
Whether it be envelope addressing or custom lettering, hand calligraphy is a beautiful addition to any invitation suite and really celebrates the occasion. We have a team of diverse calligraphers who each have a unique style and vision. We hand select these talents dependent on each project and who will best compliment it with their lettering styles.
Tell us about your design studio in Los Angeles and what clients can expect during a visit.
We welcome clients by appointment to have a personal consultation with us in our boutique L. A. studio. We only allow at a certain time to ensure each experience is truly tailored. During our design meeting, we will explore all elements of the wedding details and uncover the couple’s style, desires, and wishes for their invitation suite. Often times, there is a lot of information to convey (especially with a destination wedding), so our goal is to convey this in the most clear and well-designed way. Clients are guided through our vast portfolio of work and educated on the varying types of printing. Additionally, we will explore paper and color swatches and give our recommendations for the best combinations. Finally, we will explain timelines and our design and working process. Clients often say that working with us is their favorite part of wedding planning!
What’s the biggest difference between your New York clientele and your Los Angeles clientele?
We do not see many differences in our New York and Los Angeles clientele. Both are smart consumers, savvy and creative, and come to us with great ideas and excitement!
How do you see East Six in ten years?
We have always approached our business with the following goals: give great customer service, create beautiful finished products, and provide an exceptional experience from concept to completion. We hope to continue to have fun while meeting these goals wherever the next ten years takes us!
