Meet Emilly. Super awesome new intern for Amber Events. She had the great experience of working a 300+ guest INDIAN wedding in Malibu. The day was full of obstacles, timed and strategic transformation of spaces, and that much needed energy she was able to handle so well. Read more on her day.
How did you learn about Interning or Assisting for Amber Events?
I was referred from Beth Helmstetter (Beth Helmstetter Events) when an intern of Amber’s cancelled.
Tell us about yourself and how it relates to the wedding industry.
I am very detail oriented and organized. I love seeing the end result of a wedding and how beautiful everything looks. I enjoy working with others and helping out any kind of ‘customer’ with there needs, such as finding them their table number or adjusting the seating chart to accommodate families.
What tasks did you complete for this wedding?
I helped wrangle the Bride’s family during the Malni and keep other guests in the proper area before the wedding. I helped set up the escort card table and placed table numbers on the table. I also helped rearrange the table numbers to help with the family dynamics as requested by the Bride’s father. At the end of the night I helped with clean up and putting the property’s furniture back in place, as well as assisting the bride with gathering last minute items from the bridal room.
What surprised you?
This was my first Indian wedding and I was surprised by how being on time for the ceremonies was not a large concern. The guests and family just wanted to have a good time, timing was not something for them to worry about.
What is your favorite part of this wedding?
I loved the first dance with the Bride and Groom. They looked so happy and couldn’t have another care in the world.
What shoes did you wear?
I wore ballet flats.
The uniform for the Amber Events staff is a black button down shirt and slacks. What did you do to Jazz up your look?
I had on some very stylish sunglasses and my black shirt wasn’t a traditional starch fabric it was a little on the shiny side.
What is your favorite wedding scene from a movie?
I love the wedding scene from My Big Fat Greek Wedding. I love how everyone else is in crazy mode about the wedding but once Toula and Ian see each other it is like everything else doesn’t matter. And then when they get in the car afterward they just want to see each other and not worry about their crazy families.
Do you have any words for anyone wanting to join the wedding industry?
It can be very crazy and hectic at times but at the end of the day seeing a happy couple and guests is all worth it.
Final Comments:
I thoroughly enjoyed working with Amber Events and I hope to be able to help out in the future!
